Heat’s buyout of Beno Udrih has several teams upset
The Miami Heat is working toward a buyout agreement with injured point guard Beno Udrih that would help put the team back under the luxury tax threshold following the recent addition of Joe Johnson, Yahoo Sports reported Monday afternoon. Following the signing, Miami’s hand has been forced to make a move once again.
Heat president Pat Riley and the veteran Wade have always been known to be very good recruiters; the proof of that was when they lured LeBron James to join them several years ago to form Miami’s most successful team in its history.
Udrih is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing foot surgery. “However, if Udrih is claimed off waivers, the Heat then would immediately gain enough room below the luxury-tax ceiling to add at least one more player”. However, this new-found financial situation did not last long, as Miami just recently signed Joe Johnson.
The Heat approached Udrih’s representatives late last week about a possible buyout and discussions progressed over the weekend, sources said.
That makes it extremely unlikely that Udrih will be signed to make up for the difference in money that he left on the table to leave the Heat. With Beno Udrih being out for the season with surgery on his foot, and Tyler Johnson already sidelined with a shoulder injury that required surgery in early February, a move needed to be made.
Udrih served as the Heat’s primary backup to Dragic since the team acquired him from Memphis in November.
