Heat wave to peak Monday in San Diego County
An incoming thunderstorm may bring a much-needed cooldown to the New Castle County area.
The NWS has a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for the area until 4 p.m.
“The increasing wind, coupled with a very large drop in relative humidity, may create periods of critical wildfire conditions through late Wednesday”, according to the weather service.
Noon to 10 p.m.: rain and chances for thunderstorms.
Holly, predicts other areas throughout the state will be impacted by gusty winds ranging from 40 to 50 miles per hour. At the same time, Woodland Hills’ highs, 105 today, are forecast to be 101 Tuesday, 97 Wednesday, 94 Thursday, 92 Friday, 94 Saturday and 95 Sunday. The average heat index this time of year is about is about 85.
“A low pressure trough moving into California from the northwest will strengthen the onshore flow, generating gusty southwest winds along the mountain ridges and onto the desert slopes”, the weather service said.
“The good news is, this looks to be last day in the hot and muggy pattern we’ve been in for the last several days”, a weather service forecast discussion said.
Those effected by the heat are reminded to stay hydrated and if possible, to take cover in the shade.
Sizzling temperatures settled across the Southland on Saturday, marking the start of a five-day heat wave and intensifying already harsh wildfire conditions.
Anytime the thermometer moves past 70, children and pets should not be left in cars for even short periods of time, as interior temperatures are capable of rapidly rising to unsafe levels.
