Heavy snow will accumulate quickly overnight in NJ — Blizzard Warning
Cambria, Blair, Huntingdon and Mifflin counties are under a Winter Storm Warning from Friday at 7:00 PM until Saturday at midnight.
Blizzard warnings were issued early Friday for all of New York City, Long Island, and large swaths of New Jersey from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon.
The weather service said there will be snow and sleet before noon Friday and into the early afternoon when it’s expected to turn to all snow. Shoveling may become problematic for those with physical ailments. In Delaware, the Blizzard Warning is posted for the following counties – New Castle; Kent. A Blizzard Warning means to expect wind and gusts over 35 mph, snow reducing visibility to 1/4 mile or less and lasting three hours or longer.
Heavy winds are forecast to accompany the storm on the East End.
Central New Jersey could see the highest snowfall totals – above a foot – while parts of the Jersey Shore could see a treacherous cocktail of snow, astronomical high tides and a wind-swept storm surge that could cause significant coastal flooding and beach erosion. Airlines cancel all Saturday flights out of PHL.
The Lehigh Valley, on the other hand, is walking a razor’s edge. This low-pressure system will start to move into southern counties during the evening hours and continue to push to the east. The southern counties will see the brunt of this system and the further north you go, the less snow you should expect with this system. “With so much snow accumulating on our roads, conditions are becoming risky for any more traffic than absolutely necessary”, Markell said Saturday, The News-Journal reported. The snowfall will taper off throughout the day, and by nighttime we may even have some places with a clear sky. The weather service warns you should keep an eye on the storm as it progresses.
The first major snow of the winter is now falling on Monroe and most of CT. This will make travel treacherous on Saturday. Check HAN Network websites for updates as the storm unfolds.
Friday night: Snow, mainly after midnight. Areas of blowing snow after 1pm. High 34. Wind chills will be in the teens and 20s. Various locations in Georgia and Alabama received between 1 and 3.5 inches of snow. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. There’s a chance of some snow changing to rain.
There will be a sharp cutoff of snow to the north, with little to no snow expected in the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Mostly sunny Monday, high in the mid 40s. TUESDAY: It’s rather cloudy, but the high improves to 45.
