Heavy traffic along Central Coast after Southern California mudslides
The 5 Freeway at the Grapevine, a major north-south artery for commuters and truckers in the California, remained closed Friday after torrential rains trapped dozens of vehicles in several feet of mud and debris.
Hundreds of cars were stuck in the mud after an aggressive storm unleashed flash floods and a mudslide hurling through Interstate 5 and Route 58 in southern California.
Slow down and/or move over when highway workers, law enforcement or tow truck drivers are working on or near the roadway. “We just started floating and banging into cars”, she told the news station. 58 in both directions will be “closed for days”.
Be aware of electronic message boards and other road signs with information on incidents, changing road conditions, lane closures or detours.
Highway 178, 14, 166 and 33 are all open, according to Caltrans.
Lamont School District officials say no school buses will be running Friday in the area bordered by Vineland, Di Giorgio, Malaga, and Hermosa roads due to flooding.
