Heisman-esque numbers from Alabama back, not LSU’s Fournette
The No. 7 Tide and No. 4 Tigers meet Saturday night inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. They were kind of messing with the substitutions, and we were getting in late and not getting lined up, and they hit a couple big plays on us.
While both offenses are known for punishing running, both quarterbacks have proven they can make defenses pay for stacking the line with run-stoppers by throwing downfield.
The Tigers are seven-point underdogs, but look to beat the Tide for the first time since 2011.
College football fans everywhere are already gearing up for this game, and these two teams are certainly well positioned to give them a great night of action. Alabama has allowed just 78.5 yards a game on the ground with four rushing touchdowns.
Both LSU running back Leonard Fournette and TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin played themselves out of the upper echelon of the race on Saturday.
“They took pride and held them under 100 yards (rushing) and just knocked them down playing physical”, Henry said of the Alabama defense. The Tigers defense also got a stiff test from one of the nation’s top offenses. Dupre is the Tigers’ second-leading receiver with 21 receptions for 397 yards and 5 touchdowns in seven games this year.
Henry, a 6-foot-3, 242-pounder, ran for 210 yards and touchdowns of 1, 2 and 7 yards on 38 carries, while Drake capably spelled him at times and added 68 yards on 10 attempts.
What the loss means for LSU: Losing on the road to a top-five team doesn’t put LSU out of the playoff running, by any means, but the 14-point defeat will set the Tigers back in the perception department.
“I just wanted to finish the drive”, Henry said.
Fournette has garnered more attention this season, partly because of his handful of touchdown runs longer than 40 yards, including one as long as 87.
Henry tracked down Fournette on the field afterward, giving him a brief hug before heading to the locker room after a performance the presumed Heisman Trophy front-runner would have been proud of. That said, a lot has to change between now and then.
These rivals have played a few great games in the past. David Ching: In terms of experience and talent, this seems like a matchup that would favor LSU, which boasts one of the top collections of defensive back talent in the country. “I don’t think being conservative helps you win a game like this”.
Fournette came into the game averaging 193 yards with nine straight 100-yard efforts.
“If I played defense, I wouldn’t want to tackle him”, Fournette said.
THE DECIDING PLAY: Although Alabama administered a thorough whipping, the Crimson Tide led only 13-10 at halftime – and that only after a 55-yard field goal by Adam Griffith in the final seconds of the second quarter.
“It’s going to be fun”, Tide quarterback Jacob Coker said.
Brandon Harris has been virtually flawless for LSU this season.
