Heisman Trophy Ceremony: Time, Channel, Odds & Prediction
The three finalists aren’t the only ones making the trip to NY from Atlanta. To his credit, Sanders didn’t seem to mind the silliness, even considering McCaffrey plays ahead of his son, Stanford running back Barry Sanders Jr.
Henry will be joined by quarterback Deshaun Watson (Clemson) and running back Christian McCaffrey (Stanford) in New York City on Saturday as finalists. He might log that on his first kick return against Iowa in the Rose Bowl.
Of all the Heisman Trophy winners over the past 30 years, McCaffrey’s style of play most closely resembles Bush, who won in 2005, but was forced to vacate his trophy in 2010 as part of the NCAA sanctions which ordered USC to disassociate itself from Bush. Henry and Walker are a natural comparison as traditional backs from the same conference who weren’t used much on special teams.
Drake’s season effectively ended with a broken arm in the team’s 31-6 victory over Mississippi State on November 14, but Henry’s consistency and productivity prior to that had long relegated Drake to a lesser role. Those are the ones that scare defenses a little bit; they know it takes more than one person to bring him down. Henry already has established the SEC single-season rushing record (1,986 yards), previously held by Herschel Walker, and will be able to pad his stats during Alabama’s participation in the College Football Playoff.
For many, that performance is worthy of a Heisman and in most years few could argue that his performance isn’t deserving. However, there is a bias against both Clemson and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) as a whole, which will likely lead to Watson being iced-out come Saturday.
Only twice (2008 and ’10) in the previous 10 seasons have at least two of the top three finishers in the Heisman voting returned to school the next year. He also had the second most kick return yards in the nation with 1,042 and 67 additional yards on punt returns to finish with over 1,000 more all-purpose yards than any other player in the country.
McCaffrey: “I know he broke the all-purpose yards [record]”. McCaffrey can’t keep up as a pure running back.
His durability, incredible rushing totals in big games, and the extent to which Alabama’s offense has depended on him all season because of a pedestrian passing attack have been phenomenal. Even his competition has taken note.
Sanders averaged 7.5 yards on his 363 total touches from scrimmage, including catches. Let’s be honest though, Henry and McCaffrey are just a step above everyone else.

This year’s Heisman Trophy ceremony will be on Saturday December 12th at 8pm eastern.
While the Ohio State Buckeyes won’t be able to defend their national title form past year, it will not stop the program from being one of the best teams in recruiting, if not the best when it comes time to national signing day.
“There’s certain guys that just have instincts for the game and a body that can follow those instincts with his quickness and explosion”, Shaw said. Against Auburn, he carried the ball on 19 of 21 fourth-quarter plays while helping Alabama break open a close contest.
