Heisman Trophy finalists: Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Deshaun Watson
“My main focus is on finishing and helping this team win”, Henry said after the SEC championship game.
The 2015 finalists for the Heisman Trophy include a pair of running backs and one quarterbacks. His 1,986 yards is a SEC and program single-season record and his 23 rushing touchdowns ties Florida’ Tim Tebow and Auburn’s Tre Mason for most in conference history.
McCaffrey had 461 all-purpose yards with touchdowns running, receiving and passing as Stanford outscored Southern Cal in the Pac-12 title game.
Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson holds a football as coach Dabo Swinney celebrates after Clemson defeated North Carolina 45-37 in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship NCAA college football game in Charlotte, N.C., early…
Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey runs for a first down against Cal in the first quarter of the Big Game at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015.

All this comes after McCaffrey spent the 2014 season as a role player – a rookie trying to grasp pass protection schemes and contribute the handful of times he touched the ball each game. I guess leading the nation in rushing yards, rushing TDs and points scored isn’t good enough to overcome the SEC bias, so … sorry, am I ranting? Former Heisman victor Herschel Walker revealed the names of the finalists on ESPN’s “SportsCenter”.
McCaffrey is second to Henry in rushing yards with 1,847, but doesn’t rank almost as highly in rushing TD’s recording just eight (t-80th) on the season.
Examine this year’s three Heisman finalists and there are a couple of common denominators. He sat out last season after transferring to Oklahoma, where he has thrown for an average of 282.4 yards per game this season while completing 68.6 percent of his passes.
Deshaun Watson will fly to NY on Friday, but he has to finish finals first.
Even if the voting doesn’t fully reflect it when it’s revealed on Saturday night, all three of these players – McCaffrey, Watson, and Henry – have put together incredible seasons.
Stanford will play Iowa in the Rose Bowl on January 1.
Clemson QB Deshaun Watson was selected as a Heisman Trophy finalist on Monday.
The only knock on the Cardinal running back is his lack of touchdowns.
Saban said he hasn’t coached “many players that actually set a better example to affect other people”. In fact, all three Heisman Trophy finalists were named to the All-American teams.
