Helen Mirren Is Done With Onscreen Nudity
“That’s the good thing about getting older; you don’t have to do that sort of thing anymore”, she said.
Helen Mirren says she hates the word “beautiful” and would prefer to be called something else more appropriate for her age.
Mirren famously appeared nude in Caligula (1979), the only film produced by Penthouse, and later did nude scenes in Calendar Girls, the 2003 film about a group of Yorkshirewomen who appeared naked in a calendar to raise money.
She said: “My pleasure pillows are purely for my husband”. Mirren’s “legendary breasts” became so well-known, they were even the focus of a good-natured Saturday Night Live digital short.
Mirren, who says it’s “f*****g obvious” she’s a feminist, recently criticised men who sling their arm “round their girlfriend’s shoulders” as it looks like “ownership”.
“Talking to fellow actor Alan Cumming she says that she also like referring to her breast as ‘chi-chi’s” but that “pleasure pillows” is her favourite term. “It seemed to be nothing to get your knickers in a twist over”, Mirren tells Cumming.
“If we happen to see a [female] president of the United States, and a world expert on marine biology comes on television and it’s a woman, or the female head of a petroleum company on the news”, she added.
When asked if the acting industry was less receptive of older women, Mirren said, “There is profound sexism…” “Now, with Game of Thrones“, she said, “[nudity is] on at eight o’clock at night and everything’s a sex scene”.
