Helicopter crashes just metres from Australian holidaying on Treasure Island in Fiji
A helicopter carrying seven passengers crashed into a tree while trying to land in Fiji.
Aaron Toreson was with his wife and two daughters, aged nine and six, when a freak gust of wind propelled the helicopter they were flying in towards some coconut trees.
Incredibly, all seven on board the chopper – including the pilot – survived unhurt.
A helicopter crashed just metres away from startled tourists, who ran for their lives.
TV New Zealand employee Emily-Jane Thompson said her brother and his family, including two children under ten, were aboard the helicopter.
No one was seriously injured and all the holidaymakers had chosen to stay in the islands for their break, he said.
Treasure Island general manager Robert Wade told the newspaper that staff members raced to help the passengers who had cuts and bruises.
Eurocopter AS350 Helicopter maintained by Island Hoppers Limited encountered an accident on approach to landing at the helipad at Treasure Island.
“The Fiji Accident Investigation Authority has been advised and will be appointing an Accident Investigator In-Charge”.
“Holy s***!! Bizarreo and freaky and scary but thank God all got out of the chopper and we are all OK”, Carroll said on Facebook.
