‘Help Find Masala,’ Asks Zoo Officials Searching For Missing Red Panda
The zoo is asking for help naming the duo, and suggestions can be emailed to pandasphillyzoo.org or submitted on the zoo’s Facebook page.
The 18-month-old female went missing from the Sequoia Park Zoo in Eureka, California, sometime between 11am and 2pm on Thursday.
She was spotted in a neighborhood late Thursday, according to zoo manager, Gretchen Ziegler, the Journal reported.
The best part of the agreement, the zoo’s director Dennis Kelly says, is the chance to continue research, in collaboration with the CWCA, on “reproduction, habitat and wildlife disease issues” in order to maintain and grow the giant panda population. It’s believed she may be hiding out in a dense forested area adjacent to the zoo. Red pandas are about the size of house cats but have big tails.
Two other Red Pandas, named Bai Bai and Ting Ting, were born to the same parents at the Welsh Mountain Zoo in 2013. The cub is daughter to China’s giant pandas Liang Liang and Xing Xing, which were loaned to Malaysia to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations between the countries. City staff along with EPD are searching for the panda. If anyone sees the Red Panda, please don’t try to approach or capture. Please call 499-3668 or Eureka Police Dispatch at 441-4044.
