Henrik Lundqvist makes an insane save against the Columbus Blue Jackets
Blue Jackets RW David Clarkson (lower body) missed his third game of this season with an injury and D Cody Goloubef was also a scratch….
Lundqvist made 37 saves and Oscar Lindberg scored twice to lead the New York Rangers to a 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. They weren’t forcing enough turnovers in the neutral zone, weren’t as crisp with their passing, etc. They didn’t have any sustained offensive pressure at all throughout the game. Lundqvist only appeared in three preseason games (a very strong 2-0, 2.25, .933) and concerned himself more with his practices and his fundamentals.
Dave Hakstol’s tenure as the Philadelphia Flyers’ head coach has gotten off to a 0-1-1 start, but his team will get another shot against Florida on Monday.
The Rangers pushed the lead to 4-0 on a Derick Brassard power-play goal late in the second, and Bobrovsky was replaced by Curtis McElhinney to start the third.
“Obviously, he can skate in the National Hockey League”, coach Alain Vigneault said. We’ll find out Tuesday when the Rangers take on the Winnipeg Jets at the Garden, keeping a special eye on Lindberg.
Teammate Dan Girardi praised Lundqvist’s play, saying he was a big reason the Rangers swept their first week of the season.
“That’s how Columbus plays”.
“That’s on us. We have to be a little bit more mentally tough in that regard”. The Rangers made one lineup change, inserting LW Tanner Glass in place of RW Jesper Fast…. “Mistakes are going to happen”. “That stayed with me the entire summer, and coming back to camp with, we put out a good plan to be as ready as I could be”. Gregory Campbell couldn’t reach a short pass from David Savard deep in the Columbus end. Zuccarello scooped up the loose puck near the crease and flipped a backhand shot past Bobrovsky.
Atkinson pulled Columbus even at the midpoint of the second period. A gaffe by Tyutin set up Lindberg’s first goal. The Jackets have a few holes on the blue line but have a nice top six and with Brandon Dubinsky in full health and getting a crack at his old team here I think the Jackets will show up for their home opener and give the Rangers a nice game. On Friday night in Columbus, the Rangers rallied to beat the Blue Jackets 4-2.
