Henry leads No. 2 Alabama over Auburn
The annual Iron Bowl showdown simultaneously splits and brings together families, friends and coworkers into two camps: those rooting for Auburn University and those cheering for the University of Alabama.
In this state, that’s far from nothing.
The Crimson Tide have now won or shared the SEC West title six times in Nick Saban’s nine years in charge, and they become the first team to make back-to-back SEC Championship Game appearances from the West since they accomplished the same feat in 2008 and 2009. He threw for 279 yards and ran for 114 to keep the Tigers on track for the playoffs – and moved their record to 12-0 for the first time since their 1981 national championship winning season.
Alabama fans Chris Wynn and Lisa Wilson of Eva both grew up fans of the Crimson Tide. So would that state supremacy that grants the bearer a year’s worth of gloating. SC must brace, yes brace, for No. 1 Clemson, which will be motivated to remain first in the College Football Playoff rankings.
ABOUT AUBURN (6-5, 2-5): Johnson passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more in last Saturday’s victory over Idaho but his overall season play – eight touchdowns, seven interceptions – has been shaky and White had supplanted him as the starter prior to suffering his knee injury. The Tigers are left gunning for an upset of the two-touchdown favorite Tide.
“I was just trying to avoid being sacked and look downfield”, Coker said. Auburn’s season has been a disappointment, and they are coming in to Saturday’s game in last place in the SEC West. Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn and Tigers fans would like nothing more than to end their regular season with a win over the Crimson Tide on their field.
The 80th edition of the Iron Bowl is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on November 28 at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium.
– After Auburn went four-and-out, Henry carried three straight times from the Auburn 34 before gliding for a 25-yard TD on fourth-and-1 with 26 seconds left in the game.
The Alabama run defense ranks No. 2 in the nation (77.8 yards per game) and have allowed just six scores all season.
The University of Alabama football got a special surprise before they made it to Montgomery. Beyond that, he’s shed little light on his choice.
“Sean isn’t healthy and Jeremy had a good week of practice”, Malzahn said.
Auburn’s Daniel Carlson, a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, pushed his string of made field goals to a school-record 16 with two more before missing a 48-yarder.
In terms of the Heisman Trophy, it’s hard to argue with Henry’s production against elite competition.
Even in turnovers, which doomed Alabama in its lone loss this year to Ole Miss, Auburn doesn’t enjoy an edge. “That’s the difference in the game right now”.
“It’s always pretty quiet at the store, until halftime and at the end of the game”, she said. Both could be needed against the Tide’s front group. But the scoreboard was the only determining factor pointing toward the latter part of the game as Auburn’s best.
