Henry, McCaffrey, Watson named Heisman finalists
Henry came up especially big when the Crimson Tide needed him most.
McCaffrey’s season was a steady stream of excellence, highlighted by a series of jaw-dropping plays that perfectly showcased the sophomore running back’s unparalleled versatility. McCaffrey ran for 1,847 yards, caught for 540, returned 14 punts for 67 yards, returned 36 kickoffs for 1,042, and threw for 39.
Christian McCaffrey with Stanford earlier this season. But McCaffrey was almost unstoppable from that point forward, rushing for at least 100 yards in 10 of his final 11 games, and helping turn Stanford into the type of elite team that will play in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. He also has 163 carries for 887 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns in 2015.
Henry was listed as a very big favorite by Bovada after the race was trimmed to three finalists.
McCaffrey was named a finalist for the 2015 Heisman Trophy on Monday.
If we’re taking the player with simply the best numbers, McCaffrey’s the guy.
When you break a record the great Barry Sanders set, you’ve done something.
McCaffrey has done it all for the Cardinal.
For one of the nation’s best teams – a squad that deserved a shot at the College Football Playoff – McCaffrey accounted for 42 percent of its total yards from scrimmage. The last five Heisman winners have all been QBs.
Defensively, Alabama was so tough against the run that Florida really didn’t even bother trying to establish the run after the first quarter.
Quarterback Jim Plunkett captured Stanford’s only Heisman Trophy in 1970.
Pretty inspiring. I’d normally say “May the best man win”. Regardless, Henry doesn’t have the depth at his position that other RBs have. And while Fournette was certainly not to blame for LSU’s embarrassing defeat at the hands of Ole Miss the next week, the Tigers’ three-game losing streak and ensuing head coaching fiasco put the team in the national headlines for all the wrong reasons.
WORST GAME: Henry’s lowest outputs came against lesser teams in easy wins, but Arkansas fared the best among SEC defenses.
Maybe even a repeat of 1989, when eight players were named a finalist (only four actually attended).
The vote is also expected to close, whereas the past few winners were decided by large margins, and Stanford will hope to get a bit of revenge against Alabama.
