Henson Museum curator: woman drove 280 miles after Kermit-Miss Piggy split
When the curator of the Jim Henson Museum in Leland, Mississippi, got a call about the break-up between Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, she thought it was a prank. But complicating matters is the recent end of his romantic relationship with the diva pig. In a promo for the Muppets’ upcoming show on ABC, Miss Piggy furiously made out with Topher Grace right after advising him that he would “need [his] strength” for what we can only assume was a marathon bout of inter-species sex-it was a little like crossing the Rubicon of human-felt relations.
The Muppets will air on US TV on Tuesday night. The Muppet who comes off worst is Kermit, who spends his days sneakily managing Piggy’s moods, working up the nerve to disobey her, a mild-mannered middle manager.
It’s true that the new ABC series The Muppets hopes to be a bit more adult oriented, as the network has been playing up in all of the promotional advertising. I guess you’re going to try to tell me he wasn’t trying to woo that bird into his bedroom. “That’s not a life experience most 8-year-olds would have”. Prady’s first TV writing jobs were for Muppets projects, and Kushell says he learned to read watching a different group of Muppets on Sesame Street. Instead One Million Moms would like to see The Muppets turn from its “perverted nature” to the old ways, the original, “family-friendly Muppets of the 1970s”.
McClellan says she trusts all involved to tell creative stories while protecting the characters’ integrity. “We don’t want to cross it”. Rebecca Traister, in a piece last week headlined “The Muppets should not be having sex, people”, ably captured the sentiment that the Muppets, ideal and lovely (and, sure, fictional), should not be besmirched by tawdry gossip and innuendo. “But bear is closer to his ethnicity than his species”.
