Herald case: Sonia, Rahul asked to appear on December 19
“It is being driven by the Prime Minister’s office”, he claimed while responding to reporters’ questions whether the National Herald case was an outcome of vendetta politics. “I am not disturbed”.
“Let us get an opportunity to expose the Congress Party how they are actually holding India’s Parliament to ransom for their own political and personal freedom and interest”, Narasimha Rao told ANI.
They were asked to comment on the the Delhi High Court rejecting their pleas for quashing the summons by a Delhi court against them in the National Herald case, initiated by BJP leader Subramanaian Swamy.
During the hearing, senior counsel Ramesh Gupta told the magistrate that accused Sam Pitroda is presently in the United States and they will try their best to make sure he appears before the court on December 19.
Finally in January 2013, Swamy took the matter to court and filed a case against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, their companies and associated persons in a Delhi lower court.
Both the Houses of Parliament yesterday witnessed repeated adjournments following a ruckus by the Congress MPs over the National Herald case.
“Down with dictatorship… Vendetta politics won’t work”, the Congress members shouted under Gandhi’s guidance. The tactical shift indicated that Congress wants to take the bull by its horns than letting its opponents set the agenda for it.
On being asked whether the Congress would allow passage of the GST bill in parliament, the Congress leader said they would want it to be passed.
Hopes were raised that the long- delayed legislation would see the light of day this year after Mr Modi met Congress president Sonia Gandhi last month and both parties showed signs of compromise. Why should the Congress Party and its leaders not contest the notice before the Court? “By disrupting democracy, the financial web created by the Congress leaders can not be undone”, he added.
“No political vendetta. A private complaint was lodged”. “How is Parliament involved if some people (Gandhis) have been summoned by a court?” Nobody in this country has immunity from law. This section had favoured the Gandhis to appear in the trial court on Tuesday itself, the very next day after the HC dismissed their plea. “Nobody enjoys immunity from court proceedings in India”.
