Here Are All The Legal Cases Plaguing Bill Cosby
After Cosby’s lawyers tried to bring the case to a halt with this loophole about immunity from the District Attorney, Judge O’Neill ruled yesterday that “there was no basis to grant the relief requested”.
Lawyers for Constand painted Bill Cosby as a hostile figure in past legal proceedings and called the actions of a district attorney who didn’t prosecute him politically motivated during testimony at Cosby’s hearing Wednesday afternoon. The case now moves to a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence for a trial. In his deposition, Cosby admitted that he had affairs with young models and actresses, that he obtained quaaludes to give to women he wanted to have sex with and that he gave Constand three pills at his home.
On the stand, Mr Castor defended his decision not to bring charges, citing among other things Ms Constand’s year-long delay in reporting the allegations, her continued contact with Cosby, and suggestions that she and her mother might have tried to extort the comic. Cosby’s attorneys accused Steele of making the case a political spectacle.
Former Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor testified that Cosby had a deal he’d never be charged.
The charge by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office came as no surprise…[f]iled 12 years after the alleged incident and coming on the heels of a hotly contested election for this county’s DA during which this case was made the focal point.
During Wednesday’s edition of TV One’s NewsOne NowRoland martin and a select panel of guests discussed the Cosby case and the possibility of the comedian standing trial for sexual misconduct.
“I had to read her (Constand) this, and it was a very harsh statement”.
Seven women say Cosby sexually abused them decades ago and then later defamed them, according to a civil lawsuit they filed last November in federal court in Springfield, Mass. Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis, Louisa Moritz and Angela Leslie claim Cosby’s representatives defamed them by issuing public statements in 2014 saying their accusations were not true, the AP reported.
O’Neill also rejected an attempt by Cosby’s lawyers to have newly-elected District Attorney Kevin Steele dismissed from the case.
Cosby was charged December 30 with drugging and violating former Temple University employee Andrea Constand more than a decade ago.
With the claims against him going back as far as the 1960s, in many cases Cosby can not be prosecuted because the statute of limitations has run out. That suit was settled for an undisclosed amount, per the AP.
