Here’s Faraday Future’s insane electric concept vehicle
The envisioned specifications call for a four electric motor setup for a combined power displacement of at least 1,000 horsepower: enough for the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint to take place in just three seconds and then run to a 200-miles maximum speed. The Future is a fully-connected auto featuring intuitive UI for integration between virtual and head-up displays to help drivers stay focused on the task at hand. It’s long and sleek with a cockpit-like seating area, rear wings, and lets you mount a smartphone in the steering wheel for easier control.
All-electric, the FFZERO1 is the company’s first foray into the concept vehicle niche. During the presentation Faraday Future’s Head of Global Design, Richard Kim, placed specific emphasis on these two components, alluding to their implementation to the road ready models of their vehicles. Such customised configuration will enhance real time data visualisation and interaction, boasts Faraday Future.
This video explains more about the concept and the vehicle’s architecture and how it simplifies building a full range of electric vehicles. It was unveiled on January 4 at the Las Vegas technology show CES by the secretive company Faraday Future, which like Tesla, is California-based.
“We are embarking on a complete rethink of what mobility is”, said Nick Sampson, vice-president of research and engineering. To do that, Faraday Future will invest $1 billion to build a 900-acre production plant in North Las Vegas, Nevada, just a seven-hour drive from Tesla’s Gigafactory.
Faraday is backed by Chinese Internet billionaire Jia Yueting-the founder of “China’s Netflix”, LeTV.
Sampson said the company plans to deliver its first vehicle in a few years but did not give a specific target date.
Variable Platform Architecture is the company’s vision of a standard backbone for all of its vehicles made up of variable battery and motor configurations built into a standardised frame. With the company having hired some of the biggest names in the world of technology, including people from BMW and Tesla, it looks like they are up to some big things in the days to come.
He also said Faraday was exploring “new types of ownership” for the vehicles, but did not elaborate.
