Here’s the Latest City Getting Google Fiber
Google Inc. announced yesterday it will bring its high-speed fiber-optic Internet service to San Antonio, the latest victor among U.S. cities vying for it.
The project will bring “gigabit” speeds of internet connectivity into San Antonio’s downtown area and the surrounding neighborhoods.
San Antonio maintains a strong financial position with a “AAA” general obligation bond rating from all three major rating agencies.
Google Fiber is coming to you next.
Google announced its Fiber broadband in San Antonio.
“We’ll work closely with city leaders over the next several months to plan the layout of over 4,000 miles of fibre-optic cables-enough to stretch to Canada and back-across the metro area”.
Google Fiber has been rolling out slowly, and is only available in the Kansas City area, Provo, Utah, and Austin, Texas, right now. “This is no small task, and it will take some time, but we can’t wait to get started”, said Mark Strama, head of Google Fiber, Texas. As part of its mission to help the community, Google also promised to setup computer labs and provide computer skills training in all of the cities that have Google Fiber service.
The addition of the new city will expand Google Fiber’s coverage to 24 United States cities scattered in seven different states.
“Potential” Google Fiber cities include Phoenix, Arizona; San Jose, California; and Portland, Oregon. Time Warner Cable also offers Internet service in San Antonio and recently boosted its top download speeds to 300Mbps.
