Here’s the One School Where You Can Get a Free MBA
Starting next fall, the W. P. Carey School of Business plans to offer full scholarships to all incoming full-time M.B.A. students.
The cost of the two-year M.B.A. program runs from $54,000 for in-state residents to $90,000 for global students, which administrators said they realize can prevent students with nontraditional backgrounds from considering business school. Asked if the program would be repeated, a spokeswoman said via email that “although the amount of funding available may change from year to year, we will continue to invest in our students, our university and the future of business education”.
One program at Arizona State University’s business school has a brand-new price tag: $0.
Dean Amy Hillman said in a statement that a prospective student with a great start-up idea might balk at business school because the cost “takes away from the capital needed for the start-up venture”. “The answer is yes, and I think where we’re hopeful is that we will get more applications from people that otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to pursue a top MBA program”.
In addition to offering free tuition, four new courses and learning labs that will combine the business school with non-traditional business markets, such as healthcare, will also be implemented as a part of the Forward Focus program.
The business school is launching an online-heavy marketing campaign to raise awareness of the scholarships, and admissions officers will attend more college fairs to court entrepreneurs, single parents and nonprofit professionals and others who might reconsider the full-time business school program if it were free. So how are current MBA students facing post-graduation debt handling the news? “But I’m excited about the direction of the program”.
“To see this involvement and emphasis come to fruition, it’s an exciting time”. It’s a 50 million dollar gift from the W. P. Carey Foundation.
Olsen, who now works as a Media Consultant for Cox Media, said programs such as Forward Focus will provide the business community with highly-skilled candidates to recruit from and allow current employees to stay competitive within the job market.
