Here’s what’s new in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
Ok, so double damage in Hero Mode isn’t enough of a challenge? This more hard option is available upon starting a new game. Using the Wii U GamePad controller, players can easily access their map and inventory at all times using the intuitive touch screen, as well as quickly transform into a wolf with one easy tap. This extra challenging area pits Wolf Link against a swarm of enemies, with bonuses being applied to the base game for completion. In this mode, Link will take double the normal damage and there are no heart drops.
Link’s Nintendo GameCube and Wii adventure is getting the HD treatment for its re-release on the Wii U, but this new and improved version of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is far more than a visual upgrade.
New players will find a number of other additions seamlessly blended into the core game.
No matter what difficulty players choose, the game will also introduce a new item, the Ghost Lantern, which will be used to make the Poe soul-retrieving mission easier to complete.
A new trailer for the game, viewable above, shows some of the game’s updated visuals in action. The Wolf Link amiibo, meanwhile, transports you immediately to “The Cave of Shadows.’ Like the ‘Cave of Ordeals” from the original, the cave offers increasingly tougher waves of enemies (in a dark and admittedly bland environment) and great rewards like huge-capacity rupee wallets.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD hits the Wii U on March 4.
Nintendo has done a good job keeping physical pre-orders supplied for The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess HD at major retailers such as Amazon, GameStop, and Best Buy. In addition, several amiibo in the Super Smash Bros. series (sold separately), including Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf and Toon Link, can also be tapped to the GamePad for various in-game effects.
At the beginning of Twilight Princess – arguably its slowest period – you must free Link from his cursed Wolf form by collecting hidden droplets of luminous magic, called ‘tears of light, ‘ in three of the game’s provinces.
