Here’s what’s planned for Pokémon’s 20th anniversary

Fans who decide to pick up these New 3DS bundles will also get a special “Pokemon” menu theme, which is a nice treat for fans of the franchise.
In addition to the sweet cover plates, you’ll also find both Red and Blue versions of the game pre-installed on the 3DS, so you won’t have to worry about picking up a copy of either. The video also teased the upcoming releases of Pokemon Go and Pokken Tournament, two Pokemon themed games coming out later this year. Japan will also have the option of choosing themed 2DS featuring the Red, Blue Green and Pikachu/Yellow of the game series.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary, there will also be multiple other events throughout the year, which will be chronicled on Pokemon’s official 20th anniversary site. Fans should be on the lookout for Charizard, Jigglypuff, Greninja, and Lucario to join Pikachu at stores nationwide. 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon Red and Blue titles. While the 2DS doesn’t support faceplates, each bundle comes with 15 stickers and the same “Pokemon” menu theme.
Pokemon is one of the most beloved franchises in history.
Nintendo also confirmed plans to distribute various mythical Pokemon to Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, Pokemon Omega Ruby, and/or Pokemon Alpha Sapphire throughout this year.
No word on price for the bundle, but the previous bundle to include this smaller, customizable model of the New 3DS retailed for $219.99. Throughout 2016, GameStop will hold 3DS Pokemon distribution events for Mew, Darkrai, Arceus and Genesect.
Toys R Us, meanwhile, will offer special foil Pokemon Trading Card Game cards featuring Pikachu and Magikarp on Pokemon Day, February 27. It seems each month will have a different pack available that includes a promo card and a pin of the featured Pokemon, two booster packs for the Generations expansion and a Pokemon TCG Online code card. Among the releases will be digitally remastered versions of Pokemon: The First Movie and Pokemon the Movie 2000 and Pokemon 3: The Movie.
