Here’s why Alicia Keys is makeup-free at the VMAs
But for Alicia Keys, hitting the red carpet without makeup is a statement.
But no shade (get it?) of course to the women who came in with eyeliner so sharp it could cut someone or a pair of dark lips.
Among all the negativity, though, plenty of others voiced their support for the singer and her decision to wear or not wear whatever makeup she chooses.
“Every time I left the house, I would be anxious if I didnt put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture??” The singer has been leading a “makeup-free” campaign since May. These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking. Keys not only went makeup-free at the VMAs, but she also sported a natural look at the 2016 BET Awards, during a season preview of “The Voice” alongside Miley Cyrus and on the album cover of her new single “In Common.” She says it harms one’s self-esteem and causes women to judge each other based on looks.
Keys arrived at the photoshoot straight from the gym when Kudacki told her she needed to take the photos right away, because Keys appeared “raw”, just like her songs.
Keys have been make-up free since last May.
The result were images that made Keys feel, “the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly lovely that I have ever felt”, and, of course, she has the photos to prove it. In the end, you just have to feel comfortable with yourself and, well, comfortable looks lovely on Alicia Keys.
“I hope to God it’s a revolution”, she added.
