Herman close to deal with LSU
The headline about his job security has changed numerously throughout the season. It was, but not in the way many expected.
As the LSU Tigers prepare to face the Texas A&M Aggies in their regular season finale Thursday night, a recurring ankle injury will keep star running back Leonard Fournette sidelined for the fourth game this season, according to a report from The Advocate. With LSU in the middle of a game as the rumors began to break, their Athletic Director Joe Alleva was asked for comment during the ESPN broadcast and elected not to comment on the search or any potential candidates. It remains to be seen whether Herman will end up at LSU, Texas, Houston or elsewhere. Guilbeau added that LSU’s negotiations with Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher ended Wednesday night with Fisher not accepting an offer that would have paid him around $7 million per year. (Interim) coach (Ed) Orgeron has done a great job of leading this team since taking over in late September and we are pulling hard for the Tigers tonight against Texas A&M.
In the second half, A&M scored 32 points and tried to spark a comeback but were unable to stop LSU on defense and gave up a season-high of 54 points.
There is no certainty on any of this with two Saturdays still to go in the season. The hit will be especially noticeable on defense, where linebackers Kendell Beckwith, Duke Riley and Tashawn Bower, defensive linemen Lewis Neal and Christian LaCouture and defensive backs Tre’Davious White, Dwayne Thomas and Rickey Jefferson – all key contributors – are seniors.
Meanwhile, LSU used a 22-yard reception by tight end Colin Jeter on first-and-20 to move across midfield. Their boosters also haven’t been as loyal as the Tigers’ in the past, which is something any head coach has to take into account.
As Louisiana State University narrows down the list of candidates to replace Les Miles, its football team already knows who it wants at the helm. Herman was the offensive coordinator at Ohio State from 2012 to 2014. I’ll take it one game at a time.
“He’s no surprise to us”, said Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, who watched Guice gain 79 yards on 10 carries in a 19-7 win over the Aggies last season.
Can it be done? Make no mistakes about it: he’s at the top of LSU’s wishlist as of right now. They attributed all of his success to recruiting one player, Jameis Winston, ignoring the fact that Fisher has virtually stocked the National Football League with Seminole talent on offense and defense.
A toast of Chivas Regal fine scotch is in order from LSU’s offensive players and coaches to Chavis, who bolted from LSU two years ago next month for the defensive coordinator position at Texas A&M. Doing it consistently when Saban and Alabama are in your division requires something better than that. As is the case with Fedora, Fuente would only ever be a secondary option behind Fisher and Orgeron but there is still a chance that LSU would be interested in him based on his track record at such a young age.
