Hernandez reveals talk with Van Gaal that saw him leave Man Utd
Ajax legend and former Dutch global Ronald de Boer has put his faith firmly behind under fire Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, insisting that his old boss will provide the success the fans crave given a little bit more time.
“I started to have opportunities but one day I spoke with Van Gaal and he said I had only a one per cent chance of playing in my position so I moved to Bayer”.
“It is very disappointing because, in spite of the early goal, we came on very well in the match, scored an equaliser and we created more chances to score a second goal”.
Hernandez joined United in 2010, and scored 37 Premier League goals in 49 starts for the club.
Over the last few months, United have been struggling for goals, while the Mexican was busy winning Bundesliga Player of the Month for November.
He said of his Real career: “I’d split my time there into two stages”.
When David Moyes took the hot seat from Sir Alex Ferguson, I thought “this guy is set up to fail”. He had a place for everyone.
After splurging a (much-publicised) quarter of a billion quid on his squad, the results this season have rather disappointing.
The six-time Barclays Premier League victor says, “if United finish outside the top four, that will be catastrophic. He opened the door to Europe for me and I won two leagues”, he added, in an interview with Spanish TV show Fiebre Maldini.
Van Gaal, under mounting fan pressure at United because of the team’s style of play, gave the squad Monday and Tuesday off ahead of their heavy Christmas schedule.
It always looked like a freaky decision for United to send Wilson out on loan, especially considering Wayne Rooney is now injured and unavailable for selection.
The irony is that, had Giggs left United and gained managerial experience elsewhere, United would be seriously considering asking him to rescue their season.
But Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli is out of contract in the summer and could be available for a cut-price fee, while United must go all out for a prolific striker, with French global Alexandre Lacazette a wonderful – if unlikely – option.
