Hero Veteran in Oregon College Shooting Released from Hospital
Chris Mintz, an Umpqua Community College student credited with trying to prevent a gunman from entering a classroom last Thursday, has been released from the hospital. “Hits the floor. Looks up at gunman and says, ‘It’s my son’s birthday today.’ Gets shot two more times”. He was shot several times, including wounds to his back, stomach, arms and legs.
“During the shooting, both of his legs were broken and he is going to have to go through a ton of physical therapy”, Mintz’s cousin Derek Borgeois wrote on the page’s description.
Perhaps it’s that will to survive and spirit of hope that Chris learned as an infantryman in the Army from 2004 to 2007.
Mintz served in the Army from 2004 to 2007, where he achieved the rank of specialist. It’s no wonder he thought of others and had the hero mentality during the shooting and even now that the crisis is over. His son, Tyrik, turned 6 on the day of the rampage, Wanda Mintz said. As of this writing the account has raised almost $800,000.
GoFundMe did not waive the fee for Mintz’s campaign, according to spokeswoman Kelsea Little.
A strong crowd rose to its feet to honor a Randleman High School graduate who stood up for his classmates during a deadly attack on a community college campus in Oregon last week.
