“Hey Cortana” available again on Windows 10 Mobile (build 10581)
There are no new features in this new build for phones, but the upgrade bug has finally been fixed. When asked by one of his followers, Aul gave the hints that the W10 Mobile Build 10575 will arrive “likely early next week”.
If that were the extent of the latest Lumia’s tricks, it could be enough for a business user to get excited, but the new flagship handsets are also packed with so many well-considered features that it’s possible that Microsoft’s handset may also tempt an Android user into a new ecosystem.
The last two Windows 10 Mobile preview builds were pushed with a bug that did not allowed Windows Insiders to upgrade unless they go back to Windows Phone 8.1.
Microsoft now lets you select and share photos through third-party apps.
Battery life should be improved in this build. We fixed several bugs impacting battery life.
Video recording functionality has been improved. Visual Voicemail sync works again.
We fixed the dual-SIM issues that appeared in Build 10572.
Today’s update bumps the Windows 10 build number from 10572, made available to testers on October 20, to build 10581.
With not so much time left until December when Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 Mobile, most feel that the OS is still far from final version.
As usual with test builds, there are a number of known issues, including the issue where testers get a black screen for about five minutes before they get the new update.
You will be unable to set your default save locations on this build, and your SD won’t be properly recognized in your folder tree. Microsoft said storage on the phones could be extended to up to 2 terabytes using a memory card. A few apps might crash if moved to an SD card, but if you reboot they’ll be fine. With an optional dock, you can attack a regular monitor, keyboard and mouse and work with apps on the phone just like you would on a Windows 10 desktop. The workaround is to go to Action Center (which won’t be corrupted) then Settings Personalization Start and apply a different background picture.
This is, indeed, a pretty nice feature which Windows 10 Mobile users have been waiting for a while.
