Hiddink admits beleaguered Chelsea `not easy` to fix
Guus Hiddink also had his say on Chelsea’s recent plight, “When you are in this cycle of not getting good results, then luck doesn’t come to you either”.
“He was a good coach but he also had a lot of personal skills with players, he had language skills, he would talk to Michael Ballack in German, Spanish to some of the other players”. “When I was a player, a long time ago, I was subbed even as captain”.
Hiddink was appointed on Saturday following the departure of Jose Mourinho, who had overseen what has so far been a dismal defence of their Premier League title. The club issued a statement through a series of tweets Wednesday saying they want Drogba to honour his contract for the 2016 Major League Soccer season.
“It’s hard to judge why they weren’t performing in the past”.
Chelsea changed things up last Thursday as they sacked Jose Mourinho after a loss against Leicester City proved to be the final straw for owner Roman Abramovich.
“But I think he can be a key player again”. Sportsmen are allowed to show a bit of emotion, but they must know five or 10 seconds later that they’re wrong.
Derby manager Paul Clement was a first team coach at Blues under Hiddink when the Dutchman was there previously in 2009. Let’s give the kid time to settle and practise with the academy first and then with us. Reports already suggest that Chelsea are on the lookout to hire Pep Guardiola who has announced his decision to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
“The main problem [with Netherlands] was the quality in the group, that is something he will not have at Chelsea because it’s mainly the same players as past year [when] Chelsea won the league”. “If the target is impossible, don’t set it. But I did put that to them when I spoke to my squad at Cobham on Tuesday”.
“I don’t want to go into that too much”, said Hiddink when asked to comment on Mourinho feeling betrayed by his players.
Some feel the loss of Drogba’s leadership played a part in the team’s troubles this season and that bringing him back would boost morale and cohesion.
“We are ready to face this experience, we know they will try to look like a very tough team”.
Chelsea lost just the one game in the league after Hiddink took charge and they went on to win the FA Cup that year beating Everton 2-1 at Wembley.
