Hiddink returns to Chelsea as manager until end of season
Chelsea‘s Branislav Ivanovic, right, celebrates scoring his side’s first goal during the English Premier League soccer match between Chelsea and Sunderland at Stamford Bridge stadium in London, Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015.
A bona fide Chelsea legend, Drogba was known to be a bonding influence in the dressing room, and his ability to unite players is likely to have appealed to Abramovich given the club’s disjointed start to the season.
The fired manager’s name was chanted throughout while some Chelsea players were jeered and branded “rats” in banners displayed by their own supporters at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Supporters are expected to show their anger over the sacking of Mourinho as the Premier League champions go in search of a top flight win while sitting just one point above the relegation zone under the caretaker charge of Steve Holland.
Hiddink’s fortunes have faded since he was last at Chelsea. Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world but is not where it should be at the moment.

“I’m not too hot on that idea”, he said, adding that he was committed to fulfilling the remaining season on his MLS contract next year.
Drogba has played under Hiddink before when the Dutchman took interim charge of Chelsea in 2009. He quit as manager of Turkey after failing to qualify the team for the 2012 European Championship and did not win a trophy with Anzhi Makhachkala during a spell with the Russian club.
