Hiddink to succeed Mourinho at Chelsea
Less proud men might have decided enough was enough but, following the English champions’ sacking of Jose Mourinho, Hiddink has been offered a return to Chelsea, the scene of one of the most enjoyable periods of his 30-year coaching career.
Hiddink will NOT take charge of the side on Saturday afternoon, however, with the club confirming that Steve Holland will be in the hotseat for the game against Sunderland.
Guss Hiddink has been appointed as manager by Chelsea, albeit until the end of the season.
Fabregas was accused of attempting to undermine Mourinho in several reports earlier this season, but the Spain playmaker quickly refuted the claims.
“But when they didn’t start well, I had a feeling they would soon recover but they didn’t fly”.
“Whether I attend the match depends on my opening meeting”, on Friday, Hiddink said.
“Jose is an outstanding coach but the club’s results and position in the Premier League standings are well beneath a club of Chelsea’s stature”.
This is a season that has seen them (Chelsea) set the record of the worst premier league title defense in history.
Hiddink’s first priority will be to breathe some life into Chelsea’s Premier League campaign after the champions lost nine of their first 16 matches this season – a calamitous run that ended with three-times title victor Mourinho’s dismissal on Thursday.
Emenalo, who has been at Chelsea since 2007, said that the club’s disastrous form had left owner Roman Abramovich with no choice but to sack Mourinho for a second time.
Chelsea’s announcement came hot on the heels of Mourinho revealing he is already looking for a route back into management.
“It was a short-lived period with him at Anzhi but it was time well spent”.
“You’re not a big club if you don’t have contingency plans for situations like this”, he said. “He’ll go elsewhere and do a wonderful job for someone”. “The only player that’s performed on any sort of consistent level is Willian”. But without the ball they’ve not done half as much as they should have done.
Hiddink would appear to be Chelsea’s preferred caretaker appointment while the likes of Pep Guardiola, Diego Simeone and Antonio Conte are reported to be potential long-term successors to Mourinho.
He subsequently joined Real Madrid, winning La Liga in 2012, before returning to Chelsea in 2013. “Sad sad day”, Terry posted on Instagram. “The very best I have EVER worked with, unbelievable memories together”.
