High school football player seriously injured in game
Evergreen High School played Highline High School in a homecoming game Friday night at Highline Memorial Stadium.
Seventeen-year-old Kenney Bui, a senior at Evergreen (Wash.) High School and a defensive back on the football team, died today from injuries suffered while making a tackle during a game on Friday.
A spokesperson with Harborview Medical Center confirmed that Kenny Bui passed away shortly before noon, Monday. District superintendent Susan Enfield says it’s a devastating loss for everyone. His death comes just over a week after a New Jersey high-school quarterback died after being injured in a varsity football came.
“His classmates, teammates and even people who didn’t know him, are paying tribute to Bui, on Twitter with the hashtag “#buistrong”.
‘Please keep our student, his family, classmates, and teachers in your thoughts’. He is in serious condition in intensive care, and has been fitted with a halo brace. He walked off the field and then complained of neck pain.
There are licensed and certified trainers at every game, Rogers said.
Since 2005, 30 high school player have died directly from playing football, according to the National Center for Sports Injury Research in North Carolina.
Young was taken to Centralia Hospital and later transferred to Harborview. Ramon Angel-Oros had surgery to receive swelling in his brain.
