High time India, Pakistan set aside hostilities: Nawaz Sharif
In the meanwhile, Modi, who has often been in the opposition’s line of fire in his country for frequent foreign visits, has chose to cut down these trips this year. It is high time the countries put aside their hostilities. This list does not include the bilateral visits that he will undertake.
“We appreciate the word praise by Pakistan Prime Minister towards our prime minister but we can not be driven away from such soft and polite words as we have already suffered in the past in the hands of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, you may recall Atal ji’s experience of starting Lahor’s bus and yet we had to face Kargil”.
Sri Lanka was the first country with which Pakistan inked Free Trade Agreement (FTA) but their trade volume is less than its potential.
The Prime Minister is also expected to take a decision on visiting the South American continent for the NAM summit likely to take place in Venezuela in July. He is usually accompanied by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval with the entourage of industrialists including favoured Gautam Adani and Anil Ambani.
Sharif further thanked Modi for his visit to Lahore, last week. The countries will sign a number of MoUs and trade and business agreements during the visit of the prime minister.
The follow through has been vague, but the moments created by the Prime Minister have been dramatic to say the least.
Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, Secretary General of the World Kashmiri Awareness, commenting on the recent surprise visit by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to Pakistan said that sentiments of Kashmiri people have to be recognized in any solution to Kashmir, a dispute which is a bone of contention between Pakistan and India.
