Highlights, Goals; Aguero Scores fantastic
An exciting display from Liverpool earned them a hard-fought 4-1 victory over league leaders Manchester City in a tightly contested Barclays Premiership clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite inflicting City’s heaviest home defeat since they left Maine Road in 2003, Milner believes Liverpool are still a few way off their best.
Sterling pushed through a controversial £49million move to Manchester City during the off-season, infuriating Liverpool fans in the process.
It was the first time since February 2003 that City had conceded three goals before the interval in a league fixture.
“I have to do it. Raz [Sterling] knows as well that he is another one of my brothers and I used to tell him the same stuff”.
The England winger’s agent Aidy Ward has subsequently claimed Sterling playing under Klopp – his own relationship with Brendan Rodgers was not good – could have been “a dream come true”.
Liverpool would earn their final goal in the 81st minute when Adam Lallana’s corner kick was headed by Christian Benteke, and dropped for Martin Skrtel, who pounced on the loose ball with a powerful shot from distance to add to Hart’s frustrations.
But Manuel Pellegrini did not want to take any chances with Aguero’s fitness ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Champions League tie with Juventus, and City’s comeback hopes went with his 66th-minute withdrawal. “It was not our night and we have to turn the situation around quickly because we have an important game [against Juventus] on Wednesday night”. It was a very fake game for us.
“Teamwork was key. The way we played in the first half was just brilliant, we scored three goals and we could have scored more”.
The result sees City remain in third place after being leapfrogged by Leicester City and Manchester United, while Liverpool rise to ninth in the table.
“The good news is that we can do better”.
