Hilarie Burton accuses Ben Affleck of groping her
In an Instagram post, McGowan, wrote: “TWITTER HAS SUSPENDED ME”.
Twitter has now disabled her account for 12 hours, leaving her unable to send tweets or retweets.
However, a few of McGowan’s tweets about Affleck appear somewhat similar to those that have triggered temporary limitations on Twitter accounts in the past.
Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the high-profile stars who have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, which has seen him being dismissed from the Weinstein Company.
“‘Goddamnit! I told him to stop doing that’ you said that to my face”, she wrote to him on Twitter.
However, he landed himself in hot waters as a Twitter user pointed out that “everyone forgot” about Affleck grabbing actor Hilarie Burton inappropriately.
Burton’s encounter with Affleck was recalled by Burton on Twitter in reply to a fan who brought up the incident.
Twitter also had a message of solidarity for the many men and women who have taken to the platform to speak against oppression, people like actor Terry Crews, who issued a series of tweets that revealed his own harrowing experience in Hollywood.
After Ben Affleck denounced Harvey Weinstein on Tuesday, actress and former TRL host Hilarie Burton recalled the time Affleck groped her during an appearance on the show. We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughter. I was made to go to after assault.
The flap over McGowan’s suspension came days after Twitter blocked Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn) from promoting a campaign ad about her candidacy for Senate. The encounter allegedly ended with Weinstein placing his hands on her and suggesting a massage.
“If you believe The Weinstein Company should completely dissolve after 30 years of sexual abuse against innocent women please join me in signing this petition to honor the victims and their bravery”, the petition reads. CNN has not spoken with McGowan about the alleged sexual misconduct. Unlike a full suspension, this measure leaves her account visible. “Suspend me too, please”.
