Hillary Clinton Again Lays Out ‘Defeat ISIS’ Strategy for Defeating ISIS
OMAHA, Neb. – Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says she wants to build upon the so-called “Buffett rule” pushed by the Obama administration to require higher taxes from the wealthy. “He’s liked by lots of different kinds of people”.
Clinton was scheduled to take the podium at 3 p.m. CT, but didn’t arrive on stage until 3:45 p.m. The reason: A meeting with Somali-American community leaders at the venue.
In addition to the rally, Mr. Buffett also hosted a private fundraiser for Mrs. Clinton on Wednesday, at which guests had to pony up $2,700 for the chance to have their picture taken with the duo.
Clinton spoke during her first public appearance of the campaign with billionaire Warren Buffett, one of the world’s richest people who has been a long-time Clinton supporter.
Clinton, who said she wanted “to be the president for the struggling, the striving and the successful”, will roll out her full tax plan early next year, a campaign aide confirmed. She reiterated she would fight to implement the proposed rule, which aims to ensure that households earning $1 million or more pay an effective tax rate of at least 30%.
Clinton will appear in the third Democratic debate on Saturday.
As Mr. Buffett introduced Mrs. Clinton, he outlined statistics showing that the richest 400 Americans saw their incomes rise sevenfold between 1992 and 2012, the most recent year IRS data were available.
But he made his first donation to a super PAC previous year, giving $25,000 to the Ready for Hillary group, raising hopes among some Democrats that he might open his wallet again and in an even bigger way.
“Right now, there has been too much that has led to the wealthy getting wealthier at the expense of hardworking families”, Clinton said. But Buffett said it was “really important” that Nebraskans in the audience reach out to their neighbors and relatives about voting.
She also emphasized a need for vigilance, stressing that the country needs to be prepared for more terror plots.
“She will never forget the people who haven’t shared the same way”.
Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Keith Downey says Americans have seen Clinton’s foreign policy and counter-terrorism disasters, including the “reset button” with Russian Federation, the Syrian “red line” and Benghazi. Mr. Buffett has said the deal wasn’t driven by tax savings but worldwide growth.
The campaign official said Clinton will not specify elements of the expanded Buffett rule on Wednesday.
