Hillary Clinton Cools the Bernie Sanders Critiques in New Hampshire
Bernie Sanders is seizing on recent polls that he says show he is just as electable as Hillary Clinton, as voters prepare to begin choosing between the two candidates in Democratic primaries.
As Sanders has expanded his lead in New Hampshire and caught up with Clinton in Iowa, Clinton and her campaign have been more forceful in their criticism.
Clinton said in Indianola, Iowa, Thursday that while she shares many goals with Sanders, such as covering as many people are possible with health insurance, he is too theoretical while she is pragmatic.
Although she made a tacit case against him by saying the USA can’t afford to undo gains made under Obamacare (something Clinton has warned Sanders’ plan for a “Medicare for all” system would do), Clinton avoided mentioning the name of the senator from neighboring Vermont, something she was not shy about doing in Iowa.
“Now, Senator Sanders doesn’t talk much about foreign policy, but when he does it raises concerns, because sometimes it can sound like he hasn’t really thought it through”, she said. “The Sanders campaign asked where our climate plan was”, the headline read. It went on to include the many tweets, articles, speeches, and policy papers that have explained Clinton’s approach to climate change over the last several months.
“I feel passionately”, said Clinton, “that we’ve got to get the economy working for everybody-not just for those at the top”. “Iowa matters a ton, but it seems to be the campaign’s only focus”, said one person close to the campaign’s operations in a March state – one of almost a dozen Clinton allies with whom POLITICO spoke for this article.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, Clinton rarely mentioned Sanders or the other Democratic presidential candidate, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.
The singer performed the title track at the rally and added she’s supporting Clinton’s run for the White House, because she believes she’s the best person to take over from President Barack Obama following the election later this year (16). Clinton says she agrees with those fed up over political discourse in the country-particularly when it comes to Republicans. He has a lot of support from young people, but you know what? “I engaged in long, patient diplomacy to put together the sanctions on Iran that finally brought them to the negotiation table and actually began the preliminary negotiations that the President and Secretary (John) Kerry continued to completion”. “As bad as things are in Syria, and they are, more Iranian troops will only make it worse”.
