Hillary Clinton Declared Winner of Nevada Caucuses
Both of those wins came in caucuses, a format that, on its face, should have played into the passion gap between Sanders supporters and Clinton backers.
Looking ahead to the Democratic side of South Carolina’s primaries, polling conducted mostly last week has found Clinton holding a broad lead over Sanders in the run-up to that contest, set to be held Saturday.
SC marked Trump’s second straight victory – this one by 10 points – and strengthened his unexpected claim on the GOP nomination.
A majority of Oklahoma Democrats told pollsters they thought Clinton was better prepared than Sanders to be commander in chief and deal with foreign policy issues.
According to an email from John Rizzo, Casey’s communications director, Casey said: “Clinton is one of the most qualified individuals to run for president in my lifetime and I strongly support her candidacy”.
In the end, then, the Nevada results provide ammunition for the Clinton campaign’s argument that Sanders’s early strength is a fluke of rural white states where he’s camped out for months – and that it wouldn’t easily translate to the rest of the country.
“The Hillary Clinton campaign has enough funding, has a wide enough reach that she and her campaign staff are able to reach into North Carolina even though the primary here isn’t until mid-March”, said Ferrel Guillory, a UNC journalism professor.
“Five weeks ago, we were 25 points behind in the polls; we have made some real progress”, Sanders said. “That passion and activism gets blunted in primaries with much larger turnouts”.
Clyburn’s endorsement is a significant victory for Clinton, who has been working to mend relations with the congressman since the 2008 cycle. However, 42 percent of nonwhites in Nevada ended up voting for Sanders. His ability to close the gap on Clinton in Iowa and rout her in New Hampshire, almost all-white states, raised expectations that he could ride to another upset in Nevada.
Hillary Rodham Clinton says she understands that independent voters in particular have questions about whether they can trust her. “Hillary has all the momentum going forward”.
According to its data, Clinton is scoring higher among more educated and higher-income caucus-goers, while Sanders is prevailing among those with lower incomes and less schooling. Federal election reports filed as the Nevada results were announced showed Sandershad raised $21.3 million in January and had $14.7 million on hand.
The congressman said Friday that his head was telling him to remain neutral in this cycle once again, but he chose to go with his heart and endorse Clinton.
“Americans are right to be angry”, Clinton said. “I’m down with Bernie too”. “But my hope is that our Democratic presidential candidates coming in here and really saying that North Carolina is important to them is hopefully going to get our folks out”. Clinton had the weight of expectations anchoring her down.
