Hillary Clinton: Half Of Donald Trump’s Supporters Come From ‘Basket Of Deplorables’
Also yesterday, the Trump campaign announced it will open its MA headquarters in Hudson today, joined by Herald columnist and talk show host Howie Carr.
Mrs Clinton, many Democrats and even some in his own Republican party balked.
After Clinton made the comment Friday night, she pivoted and tried to characterize the other half of Trump’s supporters, putting them in “that other basket” and saying they need understanding and empathy. “Our enemies probably hacked into Hillary Clinton?s emails”. Her tenure has brought us only war, destruction and death. “I think we know the answer”.
Meanwhile in New York, Clinton met with national security and foreign policy experts who are supporting her campaign to discuss terrorism.
Underscoring its effort to win support with outright redbaiting, the Clinton campaign released a video of news footage of several of Reagan’s children deploring the possibility of a Trump presidency. His most recent remarks, at a forum on national security Wednesday and then again in an interview broadcast Thursday by RT, have left some fellow Republicans trying to navigate potential political land mines.
Both candidates are seeking to appear presidential and fire up their supporters as the November 8 election day approaches.
But that changed Friday night.
“In a Trump administration, our Christian heritage will be cherished, protected, defended like you’ve never seen before”, Trump said to a rousing ovation. His assassination, like the killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011 at Obama’s orders, would “send a resounding message that nobody directs or inspires attacks against the United States and gets away with it”.
Some of those people were irredeemable, she said, but they did not represent America. “And it’s beyond one’s imagination to have a candidate for president praising a Russian autocrat like Vladimir Putin”.
The White House said it had no comment on Mr Trump’s remarks.
The New York businessman also said on RT on Thursday he did not think Russia’s government was behind the hack of Democratic National Committee email servers, and doubted it was trying to interfere in the US election.
Trump, in his speech on Friday, stuck to his belief that the United States and Russian Federation can work together to defeat Islamic State militants.
He said any nation that wants to join the USA against IS is welcome.
“That includes Russian Federation”, he said. In a deluge of television advertisements in battleground states, Clinton and her Democratic allies have cast Trump as divisive and lacking the even temperament required of a president. He proposed a court system for the military to handle sexual assault cases (it already has one) and he turned out to be wrong when he corrected a former service member on the number of monthly suicides by veterans (It’s 20, not 22, as Trump mansplained to the female vet).
“All of our worldwide programs, including our global health work that provides AIDS medicines to eleven and a half million people around the world, the programs that support thousands of women entrepreneurs around the world, those will be spun off as independent entities or to partners and we won’t accept foreign funding or corporate donations”, Clinton said.
“I asked them to join me for a candid conversation about some of the most challenging issues facing our country because I believe that America’s national security must be the top priority for our next president”, she said after the meeting.
