Hillary Clinton: I’ll be a president for all Americans
Thursday was the final day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, and the focus of the Washington delegation was on presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
“Yes, the world is watching what we do”, Clinton said. So instead of reinventing the wheel, Clinton exceeded expectations by being her best: Forceful, cogent and clear.
Clinton questioned whether Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has the temperament to be commander in chief.
About two hours prior to her taking the stage, Clinton’s campaign released five paragraphs of her historical presidential nomination acceptance speech, in which she acknowledges America faces challenge, but contrasts with the rhetoric of Donald Trump.
“Standing here as my mother’s daughter, and my daughter’s mother, I’m so happy this day has come”. She leaned on her Methodist faith and the iconography of martial patriotism to seamlessly marry a progressive agenda with small-c conservative values.
Say Her Name: Almost 7,000 people died in police custody in Texas between 2005 and 2015.
After a quarter-century just behind the men in charge, Clinton on Thursday gets her turn alone with the American public for what could be most important speech of her career.
“It’s a dog-and-pony show”, Seamus Berkeley, a Sanders delegate from New Mexico, said of the convention. And so do a vast number of establishment Republicans who were hoping to extend their outreach to a more diverse electorate, such as African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and other minorities. “Some of the neon-green shirts are marked with the message “#DNCleaks”. It succeeded, but had the unintended effect of revealing clearly how few their numbers really were.
“I want to know what good old days do they want to take us back to”, said Cuomo.
“What an incredible honor that you have given me, and I can’t believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet”, CNN reported she said. “We have to decide whether we’re going to work together so we can all rise together”.
She did not shy away from the momentous nature of her nomination. So let’s be stronger together.
“Our convention is different, and so is our mission”.
In case the point was lost, a video mashed up Trump with famous bullies from film and television. “After decades of Clinton’s scandals, lies, and hypocrisy, we know she will do or say anything to get elected”, Hayes added.
“If any of you are looking for that party of Lincoln”, Kaine told them.
Clinton denounced the Republican nominee’s call to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants and build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The junior Trump took to Twitter to make the claim about the similarities. Clinton laid the foundation tonight on what will be a long process.
“Democrats are the party of working people”.
“He’s forgetting every last one of us”, she said.
Obama’s speech served as a bookend to Bill Clinton’s address to the convention on Tuesday night.
It’s a recurring theme of the Democratic convention.
The previously unreported incident at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, or DCCC, and its potential ties to Russian hackers, are likely to heighten accusations, so far unproven, that Moscow is trying to meddle in the United States election to help Mr Trump.
Clinton checked off one policy difference after another with Trump. “Bonds of trust and respect are fraying”, Clinton will say in accepting the Democratic nomination, according to excerpts of her speech. Americans might have never seen a woman in the presidency, but, in Clinton’s account of America’s history, Trump was the untested anomaly.
“I’m Michael Jordan, and I’m here with Hillary”, said basketball player Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
Clinton also went after Trump’s for saying things that she said would seemingly be political suicide for other candidates. A separate pre-convention controversy over hacked Democratic Party emails showing favouritism for Clinton in the primary threatens to deepen the perception that Clinton prefers to play by her own rules.
