Hillary Clinton Makes Fun of Trump and Herself on Saturday Night Live
In a standard “SNL” setup, the show’s fake Clinton, played by Kate McKinnon, came face to face with the real thing.
But every single season of Saturday Night Live has just as many bad sketches as the next, but we’ve just forgotten about them because they don’t get played during clip shows. Colin Jost summed up the Democratic candidates as “the woman who’s already won” (real Hillary), “the human Lorax” (Bernie Sanders) and “three mannequins from a JoS”.
The skit also tackled her position on gay marriage, the legalization of which Clinton opposed during her 2008 White House campaign – a position she switched in March 2013.
When asked what she does for a living, McKinnon imitates Clinton’s monotone speaking, “First, I am a grandmother”.
“You give off such a young, cool vibe”, Val says to McKinnon’s Clinton.
“Well, you did it pretty soon”, Val says.
In what should surprise nobody, there’s a Trump impersonation from the real Clinton. Though it wasn’t exactly a credible impression the attempt was hilarious.
“Isn’t he the one that’s like, ‘Uh, you’re all losers”, Val says.
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON: (As Val) Donald Trump?
And it wouldn’t be a Trump bit without a Megyn Kelly joke.
Killam/ Trump then defended his take on immigrants. “Clearly, I don’t hate immigrants”, he said. “Me too!” Clinton replied. “I didn’t go to Hogwarts School of Business”.
Another favorite sketch was about sorority sisters who woke up after being unconscious for a number of months after an auto accident.
For presidential candidates, a late-night appearance offers few downsides: answer softball questions, and in return, earn an easy image boost. Why they didn’t put the Taylor Swift-baiting The Squad in this slot and/or the Clinton/Val one boggles the mind.
