Hillary Clinton mulls running-mate selection
Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. leaves the Washington home of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
That’s according to an individual familiar with the discussions who requested anonymity because the person had not been authorized to speak publicly. Several vehicles with tinted windows entered through a gate near the home during the daylong session.
The meetings came a day after the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee campaigned alongside another potential vice presidential choice, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro and Massachusetts Sen.
Hillary Clinton’s whittling down her list, and a meeting with Elizabeth Warren has restarted veep rumors about the senator.
Warren has played the role of Donald Trump Twitter tormentor ever since he became the presumptive Republican nominee.
But Warren has been seen as an unlikely pick to Democrats inside and outside Clinton’s campaign, in part because the two don’t know each other well and there are concerns that Warren – a darling with the left – could overshadow the top of the ticket.
Mrs Clinton is holding multiple meetings at her Washington home related to the decision on a running mate, said one of the people. Bernie Sanders, her primary competitor. Warren would also help form an unprecedented all-female presidential ticket. He would bring a Western presence to the ticket and offer a small businessman’s appeal to the ticket. Mr Castro, 41, is a rising star within the Democratic Party who’s likely to motivate Hispanic voters, a crucial constituency in the November election.
The senior senator from the Bay State is scheduled to speak the first night of the convention later this month, much earlier than vice presidential candidates normally speak, according to the New York Times.
