Clinton proceeded to lay out her positions on numerous other issues, including her support for early childhood education, her commitment to fighting heroin addiction, her opposition to Arctic drilling and her desire to end “the era of mass incarceration”.

“I’m trying to be as transparent as possible”, Clinton said. “The numbers are only going to get higher”.

The former secretary of state emphasized that it is “important to sort out and actually figure out what is going on”.

Republicans, too, addressed drug addiction in their debate Wednesday night in strikingly personal tones.

Clinton told reporters that Trump and anyone seeking the White House should “start behaving like a president, to show respect and to stand up for truth”.
