Hillary Clinton’s Emails: 5 Questions Answered
A longstanding fear among Hillary Clinton’s supporters is that US authorities will attempt to indict the front-runner candidate for mishandling classified information as Secretary of State-a move that would nearly certainly help derail Clinton’s entire campaign. They can not be disclosed even in redacted form without endangering (I should say, further endangering) vital intelligence methods and sources.
Clinton says she did not send any classified information, and that claim is held up in the emails chains that were forwarded to her.
Clinton declared flatly that “I never sent or received any classified material”. The State Department said that it was reviewing whether the messages contained information that was classified when they originated on Clinton’s server. “If, in the course of our FOIA review process, it is determined that additional information should be classified as Top Secret we will do so”, he said. That would suggest Clinton’s email practices may have risked the identities, and thus the lives, of C.I.A. agents posing as State Department diplomats in hostile territories.
Clinton pointed at the debate to emerging reports that former Secretary of State Colin Powell and the immediate staff of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also received classified security information on their personal email accounts. She said she’s certain the matter will not derail her campaign.
The one thing about Hillary Rodham Clinton that I know – having worked with her – is she is smart and she knows what she sees.
She made that statement despite numerous leaked reports about the existence of classified information on her network, which is still being investigated by FBI officials.
The federal government said the emails were so sensitive they could never see the light of day.
“The director is somebody who cares a great deal about national security – and with the body of evidence, he really has no choice but to refer this for indictment”, Issa, the California Republican and former chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told Fox Business host Trish Regan.
The FBI is now investigating Clinton’s email setup. The New American wrote about some of the elements of that improper relationship (now there’s a phrase the Clintons should be familiar with) in a previous article. She was part time aide to Hillary Clinton at the State Department, personal assistant to Hillary Clinton, salaried employee of the Clinton Foundation, and private consultant for Teneo Holdings, which was founded by three partners all with close ties to the Clintons.
The Justice Department has not yet announced whether it will seek charges against Clinton.
