Hillary Clinton trolls Donald Trump on Twitter: ‘Delete your account’
Mr Sanders picked off victories in North Dakota and Montana. And Rep. Raul Grijalva, a Sanders backer from Arizona, suggested the time to rally behind Clinton would come after the District of Columbia primary on Tuesday.
“By Monday evening, 571 superdelegates had told us unequivocally that they intend to vote for Clinton at the convention”, it said in a statement.
Now that Clinton has reached the number of delegates needed to win the nomination, there’s an expectation of Sanders to fully throw his support behind Clinton following next Tuesday’s final primary in D.C. When asked by a reporter what he thought about Ms Warren as Mrs Clinton’s running mate, he said: “Well, I don’t know – is the country ready for two women?” And a lot of that is thanks to senator Bernie Sanders, who has run an incredible campaign.
In a Clinton campaign video posted online, Obama said “I’m with her”, echoing one of the campaign’s slogans.
Now head-to-head in the presidential race, Clinton and Trump have one thing in common: Both are working to woo Sanders supporters. “It never feels good to put your heart into a cause or a candidate you believe in and to come up short”. Advisers to Ms Warren, a fiery critic of Wall Street and a popular figure among progressive Democrats, have been in close contact with Mrs Clinton’s campaign team and the conversations have increased in frequency in recent weeks, the sources said, according to Reuters. “But as we look ahead to the battle that awaits, let’s remember all that unites us”.
Mr Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, added to his haul of primary states with uncontested victories in New Jersey, California, New Mexico, Montana and South Dakota.
Clinton said in a separate interview with Politico on Thursday that Warren is “qualified” to be vice president.
“And I say that as somebody who had to debate her more than 20 times”, he said.
As she launched her campaign a year ago, faced with a ragbag of little-known competitors, Ms Clinton could have been forgiven for expecting a coronation.
Obama’s long-expected endorsement, delivered via web video, included a forceful call for unity and for “embracing” Sanders’ economic message, which has fired up much of the liberal wing of his party.
The party’s delicate handling of the Vermont senator reflected Sanders supporters’ deep distrust of the Democratic establishment and its meddling in the primary. “These are the issues that we’ll take to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia at the end of July”.
Trump, who has also faced resistance from corners of his party, addressed a gathering of conservative evangelical voters at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” conference not long after Clinton spoke.
