Hillary Clinton wins the Nevada caucus
A smiling Bernie Sanders put a positive spin on a narrow loss in Nevada on Saturday, declaring that the results of the caucuses showed that the campaign had momentum and had an “excellent chance” to win numerous 11 states holding primary contests on Super Tuesday. “The future that we want is in our grasp”, Clinton said in her victory speech, referring to her husband. With the majority, Clinton earned 52.5 percent of the vote, topping Sanders’s polls, which fell short at 47.4 percent, according to CNN reports. While Reid did not say he did that for Clinton’s benefit, his phone call appeared to pay off for her enormously.
Democrats held 250 caucuses around the state of Nevada to choose the 43 state delegates who will go to the party’s national convention to elect the party’s presidential candidate.
In what her campaign schedule shows as her only appearance in the Lone Star State before the March 1 Democratic Party primary, the former secretary of state spoke before a crowd of about 2,000 people at Texas Southern University.
Clinton pledged to keep on fighting with her supporters now.
Republican operatives have repeatedly spun all news as negative for Clinton, whom they expect to face as the Democratic nominee. Her campaign manager, Robby Mook, ran her 2008 effort in the state, giving the contest special significance for some of the staff. Across the state, Clinton’s victory was not as clear-cut. But in a continuing sign of her vulnerability, Sanders did best with voters looking for a candidate who is caring and honest. And we will continue to work hard to make that case and to win over as many voters as possible to get the nomination.
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton acknowledged Sunday that many voters question whether she is a self-serving politician who is more interested in achieving her own goal of being president than truly helping the country.
“Israel is our partner, our ally”, she said. “It may take several weeks before the Democratic nomination is clinched, so she may need to have a strong showing, a win in North Carolina to help her clinch the nomination”. That’s the Clinton base, and she’s better positioned coming out of Nevada to start a winning streak that will quiet the loudest of critics. Her message of solidarity with minority voters stood in contrast to Mr Sanders’ more abstruse attacks on Wall St and the campaign finance system.
