Hipster Barbie’s Instagram will make you jealous of her life

The content it hosts is ideal for parody, and so that is where we are with Hipster Barbie, the one Instagram parody account that does a very good job of skewering the overwrought, super-precious, Kinfolk-life aesthetic that haunts corners of Instagram that you probably don’t frequent.

And it’s not just the Insta-snaps that are so hilarious.

What makes Socality Barbie most amusing, however, is that she is basically human.

Barbie has become a hipster and is documenting her “authentic” journey on Instagram. The satirical account shows Barbie, clad in a beanie hat, glasses with perfectly messy hair taking in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, hiking, curling up in blankets on the beach, camping and drinking coffee – lots of it.

‘Could I be any more authentic?!’ reads another. Indeed, few can fail to get it, not least when she posts things like SB’s legs immersed in bubbles alongside the caption: “Taking a relaxing bath and feeling SO #BLESSED”. And while Socality Barbie’s creator understands the popularity of these “pretty” photos, she calls the lifestyle “dishonest”. “And it’s so overdone that it’s becoming boring”, she said.

Socality Barbie’s anonymous creator explained to Wired that the well-curated account was her way of making fun of the many #socality and #liveauthentic tagged images flooding her timeline, as a comment as to how lame the trend really is.
