History maker Bartolo Colon does something he’s never done before
New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon has been making history all year.
Bartolo Colon allowed five runs (two earned) in four innings Monday, and the offense just could not dig out of the 3-0 hole it faced after just one inning.
The Mets have had a pretty tumultuous season and sit just a single game above the.500 mark heading into tonight’s game but while they are well back of the Nationals for top spot in the division they are just two games behind the Marlins and Cardinals for the second wild card spot. All the runs in the first inning were unearned after an error by Mets third baseman T.J. Rivera.
Paul Goldschmidt had three hits, including a triple and a double. Well, he’s gone and made history again, albeit in not-quite-as-exciting fashion. Colon would depart after the fourth and Erik Goeddel came on to give up RBI doubles to Chris Drury and Segura to make it a 7-2 lead for Arizona.
Trailing 8-2, the Mets scored three runs in the seventh.
Arizona has won the first four games of the season series after posting a 10-6 victory Monday, the first game of a three-game set at home. Castillo went 4 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBI’s to help power the Diamondbacks’ offensive outburst.
It was the fourth inning of the Mets’ game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Colon was facing pitcher Robbie Ray with a runner on first base.
Walker is now one home run away from his career high with nearly six weeks to go in the season.
Arizona has had a disappointing campaign and that continued yesterday as Zack Greinke was absolutely shelled by the Boston Red Sox and managed just four outs before getting pulled which is a microcosm of how their season has played out.
Neil Walker collected three hits, including a ninth-inning homer, Jose Reyes had two hits and two RBIs, and Travis d’Arnaud added three hits for the Mets, who have lost five of seven.
