HIV testing is quick and easy
In a recent study, researchers found that the disulfiram, alcoholism drug, when tested on 30 patients undergoing the antiretroviral therapy led to the emergence of HIV virus.
Dr Matthew Hamill, sexual health and HIV consultant at the Garden Clinic in Slough, said: “HIV treatment and care has progressed so far in the last decade that people accessing treatment and care can expect a near-normal life expectancy”.
“People who are living with undiagnosed HIV are much more likely to suffer ill-health”.
During National HIV testing week Cornish health workers are reminding people that HIV is a risk for sexually active people of all ages but especially men who have sex with men and black African groups.
A spokesman said: “There is a high rate of late HIV diagnosis in the borough”.
All these advancements in HIV prevention and research are inching Australia closer to its target of ending new HIV transmissions by 2020, and members of the community, clinicians, and researchers are largely to thank.
Make sure you talk about sexual health; your sexual health is an important part of your whole health, it’s OK and it’s important to get information and speak to a health professional about it.
Just the tiniest amount of blood is needed for the HIV test and the self test means you can do it at home rather than having to book appointments with your GP or GUM clinic. This way you will get to chat with a specialist about your needs and access to free condoms.
Call the Health Department at 845-364-2570 to find out about other places in Rockland where you can get tested for HIV.
Existing treatments help infected people live longer, healthier lives by delaying and subduing symptoms, but do not cure AIDS.
“The World AIDS Day Observance in Rockland is a good chance to learn more about HIV and AIDS, get your questions answered, and get tested”, said County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert. Testing for HIV is quick and easy to do, and even if your risk is very low, it is an important diagnosis to exclude. You can also take steps to protect other people.
