Hogan starts, No. 21 Stanford defeats Oregon State 42-24
Of its remaining seven regular-season league games, only two involve travel: at Washington State on October 31 and Colorado on November. 7.
Hogan was a question mark for the game after injuring his left ankle in the second half of last week in a victory at then-No. Quarterback Kevin Hogan has 775 passing yards and five touchdown passes in three games.
“The adrenaline was kicking in”. “I feel good. I feel no limitations”. A game-time decision, he completed 9-of-14 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Sanders then broke loose for a 65-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. “It’s so fun to watch the big guys doing their job”.
But the victory wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t without a cost.
Cardinal starting defensive end Aziz Shittu was injured during the second quarter, and required the help of the training staff to get off the field. The exact nature and severity was not immediate known. Stanford coach David Shaw said. “We’re already low on defensive linemen”. “I’m just more concerned about the loss”. Remound Wright capped the drive with a 1-yard scoring run. The matchup starts at 10 pm ET and will be streaming online with coverage from Fox Sports Go as Kevin Hogan and the Cardinal try and get a road win in Corvallis.
A turnover flipped the momentum, as Hogan’s rocket bounced off receiver Trent Irwin and into the arms of OSU’s Cyril Noland-Lewis near midfield.
When the time comes, Sarkisian indicated that he would communicate with the opponent so that they are aware that Olson would be in the game.
“We’ll be really smart with him during the course of the week”, Shaw said.
The teams traded touchdowns.
The connection with Rector gave Stanford a 28-17 lead and control of what had been a back-and-forth affair. Or on the defense, which smothered Oregon State in the second half. He is one of nine FBS kickers with five or more field goals without a miss.
The next possession was more productive.
You aren’t likely to see a better ball than that, as the two OSU defenders are left on the turf wondering what just happened. Stanford clung to a 21-17 lead headed into the halftime. Stanford’s offense is challenging because the running game demands attention from the secondary, and safeties have to be aware of being fooled into coming up too soon, particularly with the way the Cardinal uses tight ends over the middle.
Just 17 games into his college career, he has to be considered among the best tailbacks in Stanford history. That led to the Beavers tying the game at 7-7. An announcement from the Pac-12 is expected Saturday night.
