Hokies Headed to Independence Bowl for Frank Beamer’s Last Game
Virginia Tech accepted an invitation to play in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana, pushing Beamer’s streak to 23 consecutive bowl games.
It marks just the second time in school history the Bulldogs (8-4) will appear in back-to-back bowl games and it will be their first appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. The Golden Hurricanes returned in 1993, losing to OR 27-24.
Virginia Tech: The Hokies are playing their 23rd straight bowl.
“I know Hokie Nation will be there in full force to support our team at the Camping World Independence Bowl”, Beamer said. They’ve in the Independence Bowl for the third time first since 1993.
The obvious story of Virginia Tech’s 2015 season is the final farewell for Frank Beamer. “We hope to see you again in Shreveport”.
Tech finished the season at 6-6 and will face Tulsa, a member of the American Athletic Conference.
While Beamer learned of his final opponent Sunday, Fuente went about the process of continuing to expand his assistant coaching staff. Vance Vice, who coached offensive line all four seasons Fuente was at Memphis, will join Fuente at Tech, according to Tom Schad from The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal newspaper. Junior quarterback Dane Evans has completed 277 of 425 passes (65.2 percent completions) for 3,958 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Though the Hokies likely won’t be ranked by season’s end, even with a win, Beamer said he’s happy to finish where he earned his first bowl win.
