But the pre-show went on, including a live performance by Sting before the 10-ton Norway Spruce Christmas tree comes to life with 45,000 LED lights.
Also scheduled to perform are Crosby, Stills and Nash; Fall Out Boy; Trombone Shorty; Andra Day; and Miss Piggy of “The Muppets”, among others. Miss Piggy will make a special appearance and do a reading with First Lady Michelle Obama.
The Town of Oak Island will hold its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Friday. Children can enjoy horse drawn wagon from 5 to 7 p.m., then again on Saturday, December 12, from noon to 3 p.m. For more information, call 908-965-0660.
The tree lighting takes place Thursday on the Ellipse near the White House.
